If you ever wondered ‘why there is no such a tool, which could install all the things I need’ then here is one.
Workspace setup project aims to fulfill this gap.
I am using Chocolatey which is ‘package manager for Windows’.
It has a lot of software packages including Notepad++, Google Chrome and even more advanced like Visual Studio or SQL Server.
To install Chocolatey all you need to do is run this powershell script:
Set-ExecutionPolicy Bypass -Scope Process -Force; iex ((New-Object System.Net.WebClient).DownloadString('https://chocolatey.org/install.ps1'))
After that, you can install packages by typing:
choco install googlechrome -y
As you can see all of this is very simple.
Workspace setup is just set of commands ready to go.
Simply select a branch that suits you the most.
Fork it and extend.
Use it each time you need!
How to use install.ps1?
Just run it with powershell :)
- Computer service - install software for your customers
- IT Support - install software for your coworkers
- Home user - install software for everyone
You might encounter some issues when trying to use install.ps1 script.
First thing that you can try is to run script as administrator.
When it should solve most issues you might still run into others.
In such case don’t hesitate to create issue on github.
I’ll do my best to help you!
